Ranch-style house on wooded lot asks $1.4M

Go old-school above the lake in a hidden 1970s home

2705-1/2 Stratford Drive
Via Wilson and Goldrick

Of note: This frame-and-stone house is the second one located on Stratford Drive, close but not too close to Lady Bird Lake and bordering Rollingwood, that we’ve featured this week. The first one, literally down the street, is absolutely nothing like it.

Neither is the home currently under discussion a “midcentury modern” one, despite what the listing says. It’s a 1970s home—built in 1978—with a few late-midcentury influences. There’s nothing wrong with being a 1970s home (we don’t need to talk about the current decor—it’s more or less what happens people live somewhere for a long period of time). In fact, 1970s houses seem to be quite popular now, although it’s unclear if some people are distinguishing them from homes built in either the 1960s or the 1980s. It’s just not midcentury modern is what we’re saying here.

One of the many things the 1,975-square-foot home has going for it is privacy, along with a nice natural setting. It’s tucked away on a wooded lot measuring almost half an acre, with an ample backyard deck overlooking a wet-weather creek (there also appears to be some kind of fancy shed/guest house/outbuilding on the lot). It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a sunken living room, wood and hard-tile floors, vaulted ceilings, built-in bookcases, wall-sized back windows and glass doors, built-in bookcases, and a fireplace. Located at 2705-1/2 Stratford Drive, it’s listed by Cynthia Goldrick and Mary Anna Paul of Wilson & Goldrick.
